Wrath of the Lich King

Am really looking forward to the release of the new expansion Wrath of the lich king, so much so that I have cancelled my pre-order and I’m going to a 24 hour store at midnight to pick up my copy, sadly I’ll only have one full day to play due to work, but it’ll be overcrowded with people levelling anyway so probably a blessing in disquise.

Update: so much for getting my copy at midnight got there about 20 mins before and there was already a long queue, didn’t get to leave the store until 20 mins past midnight and sadly was empty handed had all been sold out.

Exhalted reputation grind

This is a by no means what you must do to get exhalted with each of the outland factions, its just what I did and what i’d recommend to make it that little bit easier to get there.

Outland

Honor Hold

  1. Run Hellfire Ramparts and/or Blood Furnace on normal til they stop giving rep at the end of friendly.
  2. Start doing the quests in Hellfire Peninsula.

Cenarion Expedition

  1. Hand in 360x [Unidentified Plant Parts] for quest [Plants of Zangarmarsh], Run Slave Pens and/or Underbog til they stop giving rep at the end of friendly.
  2. Now is the best time to start doing the quests in Hellfire Peninsula, Zangarmarsh, Terokkar Forest, Blade’s Edge Mountains and Netherstorm. It is also the time to turn in any [Uncatalogued Species].
    • Finish leveling to 70 and run Steamvault.
    • There is a Repeatable Quest from the Steamvault to hand in [Coilfang Armaments].
    • Underbog runs; Hungarfen gives you 70 reputation. Swamplords and Giants are worth 7 reputation each.
    • You may also run Slave Pens, Underbog, and Steamvault on Heroic Mode once you are Honored. Regular mobs are worth 15 reputation, 2 for non-elites, and 150/250 for bosses.

Sporeggar *complete*

  1. Hand in [Bog Lord Tendril] til Neutral for quest [More Tendrils!].
  2. Travel to Sporeggar and get the following quests into your log but do not do them: [61] The Sporelings’ Plight, [64] Sporeggar (must be neutral)
  3. Get, and turn in, before you reach friendly (as once you hit friendly, you cannot turn it in for XP or gold): [64] Glowcap Mushrooms
  4. Return to Fahssn and continue doing the repeatable quest you chose until you cannot anymore at friendly.
  5. Kill any of the mobs that give rep (Bog Lords (and Withered, Starving, Hungry), Giants (Fungal, Withered, Starving Fungal)) if you plan to reach exalted. If not, skip this step.
  6. Turn in the 4 quests ([61] The Sporelings’ Plight, [64] Sporeggar, [64] Now That We’re Friends… (R), [65] Bring Me A Shrubbery! (R)) that you have not done yet.
  7. Other questing in Zangarmarsh and The Underbog will naturally push you into honored.
  8. After this all that is left is the repeatable quests to get you to exhalted: [64] Now That We’re Friends… (R), [64] Fertile Spores (R), [65] Bring Me A Shrubbery! (R)

Reputation calculator

I stumbled across this website mamadruid.com in search for some inspiration over a name for a character, I still have yet to think of a name but I thought this was a great little post enought to blog about it.

It’s a reputation calculator that tells you what you can do to reach your next level of reputation with a faction. Currently only supports outland factions, but does have more features planned.

Mage raiding build

My guild has moved on from Karazhan, were we only go occassionally in un-official raids, which is kinda ok I guess, but means I cant get my tier set complete and get exalted.

Anyway the purpose of this post was mainly to just write out what my new build will be, i’m currently arcane/frost (40/0/21) and I love my build but in Serpentine Caverns the mobs seem to be mainly elementals that are immune to frost. I just hope that I can learn to love and find the some fun in a fire build once again, has been a long time since have been fire.

All good things

I had thought about this quite a lot in that the game known as World of Warcraft was loosing the fun factor quite quickly for me, missed the friends that migrated, miss the community spirit that I felt had waned a bit also, missed people that I talked to a lot and just felt needed a break, but all that being said have paid for another 6 months so can continue playing purely for one reason and that is to level a shaman with someone I care a lot about and appreciate there friendship very much.

Blizzard Downloader

After something interesting a fellow guildie from Deorum Animae said in guild chat one day and something he posted on the guild forums, found out a whole new way to get the blizzard patches for world of warcraft.

Basically it involves downloading and installing a bittorrent client, I personally recommend bitcomet utorrent, but there are a fair few clients to choose from each with there own advantages and disadvantages, once you have done this go to where you have installed world of warcraft too i.e. “C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\” inside of that folder there is a cache folder inside of here you will find a .torrent file open this in your torrent program and you begin to download the patch in a much faster way as the Blizzard Downloader isn’t that great a bittorrent client in that it doesn’t support a lot of things, for example upnp and dht to name just a few, there maybe other things it doesn’t support however and things that it does, but overall a proper bittorrent client seems to be a much better choice to get the patches as for me personally I have experienced a much faster download rate from using utorrent over the Blizzard Downloader.

Burning Crusade

In anticipation of the burning crusade coming out and the release date being confirmed had a little look on the recent developments in it especially the new spells and talents the mages will be getting, as currently my most played character is a mage.

I must admit some of the spells do sound questionable as regards to just how useful there going to be, but cant really comment as of yes, they might be suprisingly good and useful but they might not aswell, but with this in mind I had a bit of a play with the new talent calculator and decided on this build, its very similar to what I already have with a few bits added that I would of liked now but unable to have due to not enough talent points and a few new things mixed in aswell.

Talent calculator builds

Please note these builds/links are subject to break if things get changed on the calculator itself, I will try keep them working though as they change things.

Selecting a TFT LCD monitor for gaming

Over the last 2/3 days my current desk hog of a 17″ crt monitor has started making the occasion popping sounds when turning it on, thought nothing of it at first but its never done it before and I have a hunch its going to die on me, of course not wanting that to happen I had a brief search of the web on buying a tft monitor for gaming purposes, found a website on the pitfalls of buying one and what to look out for and I also ask a friend about it also, told them my reasons and they said that the tube on my monitor could be about to go.

I did a bit of searching at the ebuyer website and I have picked the following monitor, it seems to fit just everything I read about and it was an ok price I thought. Mind you if I am honest the fact that it said “Gamers TFT” in the title of it probably swayed me more than a little bit, anyway this is the monitor I haven’t ordered it yet though Acer AL1751BS 17″ Monitor.

I had a bit of a chat to a few friends about what to look for and that kinda thing and one of them mentioned that they had a Samsung Syncmaster 913N so I had a bit of a look at that and thought it was alright, I didn’t immediately notice that it was a 19″ monitor at first, so I asked them if there’s was a 19″ as I had originally only been looking at 17″ ones as thats what my current crt monitor is, and they mentioned that it would be good the 19″ as less eye strain and that, so well I was convinced by what they said and have ordered a Samsung Syncmaster 920N, I asked the same friend about the monitor as I was a little unsure whether to get that one or not purely cause it was a little cheaper apparently its an updated 913N same features just cheaper for some reason. Its being delivered to me on 07/11/2006 i’m off work for 3 days after its arrived so I will be able to give it a good test run of how it performs. I think it’ll be a fine monitor tho.
